Gregg Thompson started his second consecutive game at quarterback for Cedar Creek, replacing Dalton Whited.

But the result was the same in a 38-0 shutout by District 12-5A Division 1 opponent Lockhart at Memorial Stadium on Friday.

The Eagles slipped to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in district. The loss was Cedar Creek’s 39th consecutive dating to 2021.

Thompson possesses the superior arm. In fact, wide receiver Kaleb Dowell dropped a long, accurate pass from Thompson during Cedar Creek’s final series in the fourth quarter.

Also in the fourth, Thompson threw to wide receiver Daniel Espinal, who sped down the sideline for 35 yards but fumbled to end the series.

Cedar Creek (0-4 overall, 0-2 in district) reached the red zone at the Lockhart 20-yard line in the third quarter. But Lockhart defender Angel Davila intercepted Thompson and returned it 50 yards.

Overall, Thompson completed 3-of-16 passes for 46 yards. He suffered three interceptions.

Meanwhile, running back Anthony Scott is Cedar Creek’s primary weapon. Small but powerful, Scott blasts undaunted between the guards. Late in the third quarter, he knocked down a defender on an 11-yard gain. Scott finished with 115 yards on 22 carries.

Cedar Creek recovered an onside kick at the start of the game but was unable to score.

Lockhart (1-4, 1-2) scored on its first three possessions.

Wide receiver Demonte Anthony snagged a 22-yard pass from quarterback Noel Jaimes in the back of the end zone but remained inbounds.

Kaidyn Brite ran outside on a 7-yard score. Brite sped through a huge hole on the next possession en route to a 69-yard touchdown.

The Lions expanded the lead to 25-0 at halftime on Brite’s third touchdown, a 10-yard scamper with 2:47 remaining in the second.

Brite totaled 159 yards rushing on only eight carries.

Lockhart running back Parker Connor plowed through the middle on a 6-yard touchdown in the third.

In the fourth, Kealan Liles split defenders on a 52-yard touchdown pass from Jaimes.

Jaimes completed 9-of-18 passes for 164 yards. He had one interception
